Emmerdale actor Bradley Johnson has opened up about his character Vinny Dingle’s current storyline, saying it has only just begun.
The ITV soap recently revealed that Vinny has been feeling confused about his sexuality after he tried to kiss his friend Kammy Hadiq while engaged to Gabby Thomas.
He tried confiding in his online pal Mike, who was seemingly in the same situation, but it turned out to be a scam, and Vinny was beaten up and blackmailed.
And it looks like there’s going to be plenty more drama to follow.
Delving into his character’s mindset, Johnson said that Vinny is confused and doesn’t know if he’s gay, pansexual or bisexual.
He also stated that Vinny knows that the Dingles previously supported each other through Aaron’s sexuality, saying: “Let’s face it, Mandy Dingle with a gay son — she will not have an issue with that, at all!”
Speaking about the reason why Vinny is so afraid, Johnson explained: “He’s more scared of hurting Gabby more than anyone, because he’s keeping a secret from her, and he’s not being that truthful with her.”
Could their relationship survive the revelation? Johnson isn’t so sure.
“I think he cares a lot about Gabby and hurting her,” he stated. “But whether that love’s strong enough to keep them together, who knows.”
On how he felt when he was first given the storyline, Johnson said: “I didn’t have a clue that it’s going to end up or be as big as what it’s going to be but it’s a story that I’m really excited to tell and I think it’s going to be shocking, emotional, exciting for the audience to watch.
“So, yeah, I’m really, really excited.”
