Very Bad & Very Sad News: Kevin Costner Mocking Yellowstone, Rumored Rift with Taylor Sheridan Exposed

Hello everyone, welcome to my channel. Please subscribe and hit the bell icon for more updates! Today, we’re talking about the rumored rift between Kevin Costner and Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan, which has become even more apparent after Costner’s recent comments.

After his departure from Yellowstone, Kevin Costner, who played patriarch John Dutton from 2018 to 2024, took a subtle but unmistakable jab at the show and its characters.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Costner joked that “we all should be in prison,” referencing the numerous crimes committed by the characters throughout the series. He also described Yellowstone as “a bit of a soap opera,” a comment that many fans interpreted as a dig at the show’s direction and writing.

Costner’s character, John Dutton, was killed off unexpectedly in a controversial murder-for-hire plot at the beginning of Season 5, Part 2. Many fans saw this as a final, pointed farewell from Sheridan amid ongoing rumors of a feud.

In a video obtained by the Daily Mail, when asked about the show’s finale, Costner simply said, “I’m not thinking about the Yellowstone finale. I don’t think I’ve given it any thought. We’ll just let it go.” This dismissive response only fueled more speculation about the bad blood between Costner and Sheridan.

Rumors of Costner’s exit began swirling in 2023, with reports of infighting and scheduling conflicts. Some claimed Costner refused to film more than a week for the second half of Season 5, but his attorney Marty Singer called those rumors “an absolute lie.”

According to Singer, the real issue was a scheduling conflict between Yellowstone and Costner’s own film project, Horizon, which marked his return to directing after 20 years.

In June 2024, Costner confirmed via Instagram that he would not return for the rest of Season 5 or any future episodes, saying, “I loved it, and I know you loved it, but I just wanted to let you know that I won’t be returning.”

The tension between Costner and Sheridan has become increasingly public. At a recent film festival promoting Horizon, Costner was asked about Yellowstone’s future and quipped, “I think I heard they’re still trying to figure out what to do with the horses and hats since I left.”

The crowd laughed, but the subtext was clear—Costner’s departure left a void, and he wasn’t shy about highlighting it.

Insiders describe a set rife with tension, with Costner seeking flexibility for his new film and Sheridan unwilling to compromise. Sheridan, meanwhile, has built a TV empire with Yellowstone and its spin-offs, 1883 and 1923, and has remained mostly silent on the rift, except for a pointed remark: “I’m not the kind of guy who lets the inmates run the asylum.”

Despite the sarcasm, Costner hasn’t completely closed the door on his Yellowstone experience, saying, “I loved playing Dutton… but at some point, you either ride off into the sunset or get trampled trying to stay too long.”

Whether his mockery comes from hurt or humor, it’s clear that his departure marks the end of an era for Yellowstone.

Fans are divided—some support Costner’s stance on artistic freedom, while others see his comments as unnecessary drama.

As the dust settles, one thing is certain: the Costner-Sheridan standoff is as dramatic as any storyline on Yellowstone, and only time will tell what the future holds for the show and its stars.
