The following article contains spoilers from an episode of Emmerdale that has not aired on ITV1 yet, but can be viewed on ITVX.
Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) woke up with a very sore head in this evening’s episode of Emmerdale.
Yesterday, the character got drunk after telling Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) that the recent embryo transfer probably hadn’t worked. Charity also had a massive row with Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb), which left her worried about their future together.
She was found in the pub by ex girlfriend Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick), who took her back to her house. There, Vanessa listened to Charity as she spoke about the surrogacy journey with Sarah, and her argument with Mackenzie.
As the evening continued, Vanessa told Charity that she could sleep in Tracy Shankley’s (Amy Walsh) room due to how drunk she was. Charity then suggested to Vanessa that she could join her in the bed, and then proceeded to kiss her ex.
The kiss itself, surprisingly, left fans of the ITV soap divided.
‘No I like Charity and Mack together,’ Marie Leith told us on Facebook, and she is not the only one rooting for the couple, who have been married since 2023.
‘Please don’t put those two together again. I like Charity and [Mack] as a couple,’ Jo King pleaded, while Diane Mcdougall agreed: ‘M+C Together.’
Several other Metro readers agreed that they would prefer to keep Vanessa and Charity’s relationship in the past, with Elaine Saunders saying: ‘Please don’t go there again.’
On the flip side, there are many Metro readers who are desperate to see Vanessa and Charity, or Vanity as they have been known, back together.
The couple share a rich history, having first kissed unexpectedly while locked in the cellar of the Woolpack together.

Charity woke up on the sofa at Jacobs Fold in tonight’s episode. She had an awful lot on her mind and once she had a conversation with Mack and Sarah about the events from the week, she went to see Vanessa.
Vanessa made it clear to Charity that she wasn’t going to lie for her. She made Charity see that it would be better if she told Mackenzie about the kiss now, rather than risk him finding out from someone else.
Back at home, Charity prepared herself to tell Mack and potentially face the end of her marriage. Unfortunately, things got even more complicated for Charity when Mack walked through the door.
Mack had bought Charity a greasy sandwich as a post-hangover snack and she was touched by the thoughtful action. The conversation they had eventually saw Charity lie to him and ignore last night’s betrayal.

When Vanessa arrived, she quickly worked out that Charity hadn’t told Mack, which meant she had to go along with Charity’s lie as well.
Charity and Mackenzie have gone through so much in recent weeks. Secrets never stay hidden forever in soapland which means there will probably be a point in the future where Mack finds out about what Charity has done.
What will the future hold for them?
Charity and Vanessa split in 2020 after Charity cheated on her partner with Mackenzie.
Meanwhile, Vanessa went on to embark on a relationship with Suzy Merton (Martelle Edinborough), but she died in the ITV soap’s epic limo crash stunt earlier this year.
Vanessa was supported by Mary Goskirk (Louise Jameson) in the aftermath of Suzy’s death, although flashbacks revealed she’d shared a kiss with Suzy before she died.
For most of this year, Charity and Vanessa have been sharing quite a few scenes together, and it hasn’t gone unnoticed.
