Former Coronation Street star Colson Smith has revealed he found himself in a bit of pre-wedding bother as he had a special role on his castmate’s big day over the summer.
The actor, who is famed for having played Craig Tinker in the ITV soap up until his tragic exit earlier this year, was a groomsmen for Jack P Shepherd when he married his long-term partner Hanni Treweek in July.
After getting engaged last summer during a dream safari holiday in Tanzania, the loved-up couple said ‘I Do’ in front of their friends and family on July 26 during a stunning ceremony at Manchester Cathedral.
The reception party then took place inside “hidden gem” Halle St Peters in Ancoats, with insiders having since described the venue as “mega” and even the venue said they’d “never seen it looking so fab”.
The loved-up duo were joined at the celebration by some of Jack’s current colleagues, including Lucy Fallon, Alan Halsall, Tina O’Brien and notably his former on-screen mum Helen Worth, as well as some of his showbiz pals, like Celebrity Big Brother co-star Chris Hughes.
Since then, the new Mr and Mrs Shepherd have been seen enjoying a picturesque Italian honeymoon and now, Jack has been heard speaking about their big day for the first time with Ben and former Corrie co-star Colson Smith on their podcast, On the Sofa.
Having had weeks away from the pod, the trio were back with a new episode on Wednesday (August 27) and they made sure to kick off their return by talking all about Jack and Hanni’s wedding day.
Having shared some of the pre-wedding ‘c**k-ups’ – including some of Hanni’s family going to the wrong venue – Colson had to reveal an error of his own.

The night before the big day, having checked into their city centre hotel, Jack, Colson and Ben headed out for some dinner following the wedding rehearsal earlier in the day and while there, Jack asked them whether they had tried on their suits.
They confirmed to the groom, who described it as one of the ‘f**k ups’ of the day, that they hadn’t, and had decided it was now too late to do anything if they didn’t fit so they were just going to see what happens when they put them on to get ready for the wedding.
Ben told how his suit fit like a glove but while he was ready, he got a phone call from a panicked Colson who confirmed his shirt didn’t fit around his neck or across his chest.
Colson explained that he had to make a mad dash to the shop to get a new shirt, which was made complicated by a road closure due to Manchester Day also taking place on the same day. All was well, as Colson managed to get a new shirt and claimed he was ‘door to door’ in about ’26 minutes’.
Colson eventually joined Jack, Ben, Jack’s brother Tom and son Reuben ready for photos but that wasn’t the end of the slight problems.
“You [Colson] came into the room with your shirt on, didn’t you, no shoes on, what did Jack say to you?” Ben said, to which Colson replied: “Jack said, ‘Oo, they’re black socks!’” spotting his pal’s light blue pair.

Ben explained that as it was black tie, he should have known it was black socks, but Colson protested: “I didn’t know this!” before adding: “I went in my sock drawer that morning and I went, ‘Do I go green? Do I go blue?’ I wanted to go for a nice sock so I went for a nice light blue sock.”
Having discussed the wedding day itself, Ben, who also gave a reading during the ceremony, summarised his thoughts on Jack and Hanni’s nuptials, which led to him making an admission about being a part of Corrie.
“I think, before we go to a break, there’s just one thing I think we’ve got to say – what an amazing day it was,” Ben said. “How in love you both were, how everyone who was there from work said, ‘what a great wedding’… I know everyone’s in love when they get married, but two people, really in love, really beautiful service – went very, very well – great readings, obviously. It was a really lovely day, full of love!”
