Coronation Street has revealed the unexpected outcome of Carla Connor’s big proposal to her partner Lisa Swain.
Last week, the soap treated fans to a sneak peek at this week’s episode, in which Carla told Ryan that she intended to propose to Lisa.
In today’s scenes, Carla excitedly took delivery of the engagement ring at their new home of No.6, breaking the news to her nephew Ryan that she planned to pop the question to Lisa.
When Lisa came home, Carla was forced to hide the box containing the ring. Once Lisa was gone, Carla told Ryan that she wasn’t going to get down on one knee.
“I don’t think I’m going to do that,” Carla said, asking Ryan: “It doesn’t need to be a whole production, does it?”
After Ryan scoffed at her response, Carla was forced to rethink her plans and she called in at the Rovers to set her proposal in motion.
Handing the engagement ring to Glenda, Carla asked her to slip it into Lisa’s glass of champagne when she arrived.
Carla called Lisa at work, insisting that they meet in the Rovers for a drink, saying: “I just need a drink to unwind.”
Lisa joined a nervous Carla in the Rovers, but as Glenda was getting ready to serve the champagne, Debbie headed over to discuss her own wedding plans.
When Lisa explained that her ex-wife Becky proposed to her by dropping an engagement ring in a glass of champagne, Debbie said the same thing happens every other day at her hotel.
Debbie added: “Let’s hope this one’s more imaginative when the time comes”, leading to Carla gesturing to Glenda to scrap the plan.
Having returned home, Carla told Ryan about her failed attempt at a proposal. An amused Ryan assured her that she’ll come up with a better plan, calling her first try “corny”.
What will Carla’s next idea be?
