A Coronation Street favourite has teased their return to the cobbles to ‘save’ Eileen Grimshaw as fans fear she will leave Weatherfield in a shock ‘murder’ plot.
It’s not secret that the character will soon be saying her goodbyes after actress Sue Cleaver confirmed her plans to leave the ITV soap after 25 years in the role.
But fans have recently been fearing that Eileen could be put behind bars as she was unfortunately linked to her own sister’s death after Julie Carp was discovered to have taken an overdose while living with terminal cancer.
There were heartbreaking scenes in Corrie on Monday night (May 5) as Julie died, months after she returned to the Cobbles after almost 10 years.
In February, actress Katy Cavanagh reprised the role of the beloved character but it was only ever going to be a short return as it was quickly revealed that Julie was dying having been diagnosed with terminal cancer.
It was then earlier this week that Julie’s death sadly took place. She was first seen in Victoria Gardens, where she secretly recorded an emotional farewell message for her family before heading off with Eileen for a day out at the lake.
As they enjoyed the tranquillity of their surroundings and their time together, Eileen left to grab them some tea on Julie’s request, with no idea what she’d return to find. When Eileen returned, she found Julie not breathing. With a DNR in place, Julie was pronounced dead by paramedics, leaving Eileen to return home alone.
Later, a devastated Brian Packham confirmed he’d found Eileen’s empty prescription in Julie’s wash bag. Roy Cropper was among those to try and console Brian but furious with grief, he headed to the police station and filed a complaint, claiming Julie had taken an overdose, which was assisted by Eileen.

Eileen ended up being taken in for questioning by DS Lisa Swain, and when she was eventually allowed to go home, pending further investigation, she was crestfallen and feared for her future.
Now, Ryan Thomas has given a hint at how his return to the long-running show will play out after he reprised the role of Eileen’s son Jason Grimshaw, especially for Sue’s exit.
The pair appeared together on Friday’s (May 9) Loose Women, where Sue is a panellist and Ryan appeared as a guest alongside his brother Adam.
As the subject of Corrie occurred, Ryan said: “Are we allowed to talk about this? This is quite big news, isn’t it? Jason is coming back to save Eileen.” He added: “We’re very grateful for Coronation Street…”

Ryan went on to share on the moment he was asked by Sue to return: “Mother rings me asking ‘Will you come back for my exit storyline?’ and I went ‘yeah’.”
Asked how it felt to be back on the cobbles, the 40-year-old shared: “It was very nostalgic. It takes you down memory lane, a place it all started….
“Adam and I are so grateful for the soaps because it’s why we are who we are and where we are now. Coronation Street and Emmerdale, they’re iconic and they’re such a big part of us growing up and our lives.”
