Coronation Street star Jacob Roberts has explained why his character Kit Green is dredging up the past to uncover the truth about Becky Swain.
The mystery over whether Lisa Swain’s late wife was a corrupt copper has taken plenty of twists and turns in recent weeks – and the biggest drama could still be to come.
Earlier this week, Kit confided in his girlfriend Sarah Barlow about how one of his recent investigations was linked to a historic case that Becky worked on before she died.
Kit has been busy trying to find out more, but keeps being thwarted by his shifty boss DI Costello.
Speaking exclusively to us at a photoshoot for the Inside Soap Awards 2025, Roberts revealed Kit’s intentions: “He knows that something’s wrong. He knows that something’s not adding up.
“I think Kit likes to sniff around and see what he can find out before anyone [else]. He likes to have the advantage, I think.
“I know Lisa’s not too happy about him looking at the files, but he’s doing it for a good cause. He has to be secretive with this sort of stuff, so it doesn’t break, and get his evidence together, so that’s why he doesn’t tell anyone.
“But it’s nice, because it’s nice having that tension with Lisa as well.”
Kit’s other recent storyline has seen him working to build bridges with his estranged son Brody Michaelis.
The pair have been getting to know each other since the revelation of how they’re related, but Brody’s erratic moods have made life difficult.
“I think both of them are quite wary of each other,” Roberts continued. “If they’re being nice to each other in one scene, I think that can quickly change! They’ve both got their wits about them, so there is that trust issue there.
“I’m very excited to be working with Ryan [Mulvey, who plays Brody]. I’ll be intrigued to see what’s coming up and how they’re going to work us together. [Kit] put away the mum and dad in prison so you’re not going to have trust there, but it’s blood as well, so we’ll see what comes up.”
Roberts took part in the Inside Soap Awards photoshoot as he’s nominated for Best Actor this year.
Reflecting on the nod, he told us: “I didn’t expect it at all! It’s obviously nice to be nominated – showing that what you’re doing on screen is actually getting some recognition.
“Obviously, I’m not too fussed about winning the award, it’s just nice to be nominated and that’s all I can ask for.
“Ryan’s also up for Best Newcomer – he’s part of the family now, so obviously I’ll be rooting for him. But I’m rooting for everyone at Coronation Street – hopefully some of the actors start winning some awards now!”
Asked why fans should get behind Corrie for the Best Soap prize, Jacob replied: “Because it is the best soap! Corrie have been doing some really good storylines recently and hopefully it’ll get its recognition again at this awards. I think there’s some really great actors in there and hopefully it’ll show this year.”
