Casualty star Melanie Hill has admitted she thinks it’s a “shame” more wasn’t done with the recent stroyline. Her character Siobhan McKenzie’s son Ben (played by Dominic Sharkey) terrorised and stalked her colleague Stevie Nash (Elinor Lawless) after discovering she had an affair with his father.

Stevie eventually rumbled his identity but when she confronted Siobhan with the facts the Clinical Nurse Manager seemed unperturbed and merely sent him home as if she was letting him off the hook, much to Stevie’s chagrin.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk on the set of the show, while on a break from filming the long running BBC medical drama, Melanie confessed more could have been done with it. “When I watched it I was thinking really that I’m out of order. I mean, she’s been put through a hell of a lot, but Stevie could get him locked up. And they don’t sort of carry that on or bring it to a conclusion, which I think is a shame,” she said

“I just thought she was a bit cheeky, and she should have been much more (contrite).

“I mean, she says at the end, ‘I’m sorry’ but it’s a shame that wasn’t continued.

“But I think it should have had some kind of reason, like me, b********* him or something,” she said.

However she does understand the reason the usually caring Siobhan is acting the way she is given all her recent upheavels.

“I suppose, let’s be honest, my (Siobhan’s) husband has just died so there’s all that, and there’s that massive betrayal (the affair). So it’s a bit humiliating I guess and she’s not her normal kind, caring self, but that’s only short lived.”

Perhaps most humiliatingly the character has effectively been given a demotion following the arrival of new Clinical Lead Flynn Byron (Olly Rix).

Siobhan had been covering the role and Melanie says: “They gave me that responsibility without any of the kudos really. Because I was doing all that work but getting no more money.

“And apparently that happens. That has happened a lot (in real life) where the nurses have to step up.”
