Ball had previously been married to actress and psychologist Pamela Stephenson from 1978 to 1984, but their marriage ended when Stephenson left him for comedian Billy Connolly. Following his death, many of Ball’s friends and co-stars shared heartfelt tributes to the actor. Director Keith English, who worked with Ball on the short film Top Dog, fondly remembered him as “a terrific actor, kind and generous.”

English went on to recall personal memories with Ball, including a memorable evening at The Royal Albert Hall where Ball and his great friend Mel Smith were “fairly merry” and caused quite a stir with their enthusiastic football chants during the performance.

“Nick was a loving husband, friend, and a wonderful actor,” English wrote in his tribute. “We enjoyed every minute of his company. Farewell and bon voyage.”
