‘EastEnders’ Spoiler: Johnny Carter To Be Recast Ahead Of Character’s 2016 Return

‘EastEnders’ bosses have confirmed that they’re set to recast the role of Johnny Carter, ahead of the character’s return to Albert Square.

Johnny, who was previously played by Sam Strike, was last seen in Walford in 2014, but he’ll be back later this year – with a new face.

Sam joined the cast in 2013

A spokesperson for the soap tells the Radio Times: “There are so many more stories that we wanted to tell with Johnny, so we felt that the time was right to unite the Carter family again.”

“The Carter family quickly became one of EastEnders’ most iconic families and there are lots of stories planned for them, but it felt it would be a shame if those stories had to be told without Johnny’s involvement,” a source adds. “Whoever gets the job will be landing themselves a dream role.”

There’s no word yet on exactly when Johnny will be back in Walford, but viewers can expect to see the new actor on screen this year.

What makes the Knight family so compelling is not just their individual personalities, but the sense of unity they bring. Despite their conflicts, they stand together. There’s a strength and resilience in their bond, built on shared grief, challenges, and the desire for a better life. Their presence at the Queen Vic gives the pub a renewed energy—new laughs, new tensions, and new drama that fits perfectly into the rhythm of Albert Square.

Critics praised the decision to introduce the Knights, with many viewers noting that they felt like a natural yet refreshing addition to the EastEnders universe. The casting of Colin Salmon was especially applauded, as his performance brings depth and charisma to the role of George. Likewise, Francesca Henry and Molly Rainford, both relative newcomers to the soap world, were welcomed for their authentic and dynamic portrayals.

As the Knights settle in, one thing becomes clear: they are not just passing guests in Walford. They are here to stay. Their arrival has already begun to shake the foundations of familiar relationships, uncover secrets, and set new storylines into motion. Whether it’s business rivalries, romantic entanglements, or family betrayals, the Knight family is ready to face whatever EastEnders throws at them.

The Queen Vic has a new heartbeat—and its name is Knight.
