Casualty returned for the first episode of the new series, with Jodie and Dylan taking centre stage in a dramatic series opener

Casualty fans were left fearing the worst as two new characters arrived on the BBC show this evening.

Tonight, there was much drama – and a lot of blood – as Casualty fans were treated to a new episode. The episode focused around Dylan (Will Beck) and Jodie (Anna Chell), when she learned Dylan had only agreed to mentor her because her dad had asked.

As they went out for dinner to discuss it all, their meal was interrupted by a car crashing into the restaurant. The man who was driving had been trying to get his wife to hospital as she was pregnant with their child.

Dylan was forced to perform a C-section on the mum there in the restaurant, as the helpless dad watched on. The baby survived, but the mum was rushed to hospital but suffered two heart attacks and tragically died, leaving Dylan devastated.

Elsewhere, there was the arrival of two new paramedics, who angered viewers with their attitude towards their mentor. Fans were left fuming, convinced their arrival could spell an exit for another fan favourite.

One wrote: “Don’t like these new paramedics, but I didn’t like the nurses when they first started so #Casualty.” (sic)

Whilst a second added: “Nah those 2 paramedics already doing my head in #Casualty.” A third penned: “These two paramedics need to grow up! #casualty.” (sic)

“The show’s been crying out for some more more paramedics and we get these two ? Really #Casualty,” a fourth penned, with a fifth adding: “Hope two new paramedics starting means doesn’t mean one of the regulars is leaving #Casualty.” (sic)

Another shared their fears, and wrote in response: “That’s what normally happens doesn’t it when there’s a new character and if it does mean that then I’m not looking forward to it as I like the paramedics as it is.”

Speaking about the new series, Will Beck – who plays Dylan – described it as a “real rollercoaster ride”.

He said: “The first thing that comes to mind is chaos, it’s a real roller coaster ride. I think particularly for Jodie, it’s a real opportunity for people to get to know her.

“I think the thing that this box set does, is it goes to an emotional depth. Dylan strangely enough gets caught up in it because of the correlation between the situation that Jodie finds herself in.”
