Coronation Street star Vicky Myers has shared the ‘nickname’ she and co-star Alison King have for one another as she discussed them ‘making history’ in the long-running show.
It’d be fair to say that many fans have been left enamoured with the two actresses both individually but the interest has only grown with the developing relationship between the two characters – Lisa Swain and Carla Connor.
Alison is best known for playing Underworld factory boss Carla, having joined back in 2017. Meanwhile, despite having officially making her debut as DS Swain back in 2021, it’s only in the past 18 months Vicky has become an integral part of the Corrie cast.
It was last year that Lisa and Carla became close during an unexpected time. During her investigation into missing Lauren Bolton, despite her best friend Roy Cropper being accused of the teen’s murder, Carla became a shoulder to cry on for Lisa.
After being unable to hide their feelings for one another, it was late last year the pair shared a kiss, and the rest, as they say is history. But as mentioned, it hasn’t been plain sailing due to Carla’s ill health at the start of the year which saw the return of her murderer brother, Rob Donovan, and Lisa’s complicated past.

But the pair are more committed than ever and after a total of two proposal attempts so far, it appears that ‘third time lucky’ could be the motto they live by as Carla’s new plans to pop the question to her girlfriend have been revealed.
Away from what’s happening on-screen, Vicky has opened up about her bond with co-star Alison, as well as her on-screen daughter Sydney Martin, who plays Betsy Swain, and some of her other co-stars.
Speaking to OK! Magazine, she said: “Ali and I call each other ‘work wife’, but that’s not a spoiler. Sydney is like a second daughter. I am truly thankful to be surrounded by these people.”
While on-screen, Lisa’s relationship with her colleague DC Kit Green may be challenging, behind-the-scenes, Vicky gets on well with Jacob Roberts, the actor who plays him, thanks to a big shared interest.
“We chat about football because we’re both [Manchester] City fans, so that tends to be our main topic of conversation. I also share a dressing room with Kate Ford (Tracy Barlow), who is one of the funniest people I’ve ever met.”
Vicky also opened up about how Carla and Lisa’s relationship is in no way a publicity stunt for the soap. “I hate the term queer-baiting, it’s not that,” Vicky says. Instead, it’s a contemporary depiction of a lesbian couple – something she views as progress after decades of prejudice.
Growing up in the 1980s, she recalls the homophobia around the Aids epidemic. “I remember it was horrific. To be able to portray Lisa with Ali – we’re making history. It’s needed.”
