Emmerdale aired a secret kiss between former couple Aaron Dingle and Robert Sugden, after the latter returned to the Dales to ruin Aaron’s wedding.

Tonight’s episode followed on from yesterday’s cliffhanger, which saw Robert arrive at Aaron and long-lost half brother John Sugden’s nuptials, determined to take Aaron back.

Aaron and Robert have had no contact since Robert was handed a life sentence for the murder of Lee Posner, severing all ties with Aaron after learning he was to be transferred to a prison in the Isle of Wight. But while time has passed, the flame proved to still be there between the former couple as a secret kiss aired.

Aaron was shaken by Robert’s arrival at the wedding venue, who claimed he was there to save Aaron “from making the biggest mistake of your life.” But Aaron responded by punching Robert and ordering him to leave, with Cain, Chas and Paddy also urging him to go.

Aaron and John then tried to resume the wedding, but as it came to the vow readings, Aaron was overcome and left, telling John he needed some time to clear his head first.

Aaron tracked down Robert and demanded to know how he knew about his wedding to John, with Robert coming clean that he learnt about it via social media.

Robert explained that he’d spent every single second in prison still being in love with Aaron and that he wanted to make a go of things again, now that he’s on probation, after his sentence was reduced on appeal.

Aaron said Robert’s arrival was a mistake and went to leave but Robert confronted him and said that he thought Aaron still loved him too.

“I think you want this,” Robert said as he leaned in for a kiss, which Aaron immediately rejected. “I can’t,” replied a tormented Aaron, who then gave into his feelings and kissed Robert back.

Chas then arrived on the scene, shocked at having seen the pair share a kiss.

“I’ve just seen something I shouldn’t seen,” she said. “You want to thank your lucky stars that I’m not your future husband.”

Chas warned Aaron to stay clear of Robert, claiming he didn’t really love him and was only causing trouble now he’s happy with John.

Robert left the mother and son to chat, but made his feelings clear: “We weren’t a good thing, we were the best thing.”

After chatting with Chas alone Aaron realised that it’s John who makes him happy and panicked when he realised that Robert might tell John about their kiss, ruining their happily ever after.

Chas and Aaron went looking for John, but Robert found John and sister Victoria first. John told Robert that he wasn’t intimidated by him, to which Robert replied that John shouldn’t be intimidated just worried.

Robert and John came to blows, just as Chas and Aaron arrived, who ordered the pair to stop fighting. Robert went to tell John about his and Aaron’s kiss, but Aaron shook his head and Robert decided against it.

John then told Aaron he still wants to go ahead with the wedding, hoping he’d join him inside and make the right decision.

It was then Robert’s turn to issue an ultimatum: “You’ve got a decision to make, I’m not asking you to choose me, I’m asking you to choose us.”
