Fans Left Perplexed
Coronation Street fans have been left frustrated after discovering the ITV soap won’t air in its usual Wednesday night slot. The disruption comes as part of another schedule shake-up, with football coverage taking priority.
The long-running soap usually airs hour-long episodes every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 8pm. But this week, things look very different. Corrie aired on Monday (August 25) and Tuesday (August 26) at 8pm, while Friday (August 29) will stay on schedule. Wednesday night, however, belongs to the Carabao Cup.
Football Knocks Corrie Off Air
ITV has shifted the cobbles to make way for live football coverage of Grimsby Town versus Manchester United. The match kicked off at 7.30pm, clashing with Corrie’s prime slot.
The change left many viewers confused, especially those trying to find the usual episode on ITVX. One Corrie fan posted: “Why isn’t Corrie on tonight? Can’t find tonight’s episode on ITVX.”
Others vented their anger online. One wrote: “It’s not on because of the football.” Another added: “Football sadly, I wish football would go on another channel.” A third fan fumed: “Bloody football!”
Drama on the Cobbles This Week
Despite the disruption, Weatherfield has delivered high drama for its residents. The focus has been on trainee paramedic Asha Alahan (Tanisha Gorey), who faced her toughest storyline yet.
Monday’s special episode followed Asha during a harrowing shift. She found herself caught up in a tragedy involving a fatality and a seriously injured elderly patient. To make matters worse, Asha suffered a horrific racist assault while trying to do her job.
The traumatic events left her shaken, and she turned to alcohol as a way of coping. Later, she began experiencing panic attacks, showing just how overwhelming her new career path can be.
Tanisha Gorey on Asha’s Storyline
Speaking about the emotional storyline, actress Tanisha Gorey explained:
“It feels like everything is hitting her from every angle and she doesn’t know how to cope with it all. She feels really alone while battling everything and there’s a series of events that take place during a horrific shift which ultimately leads her to experiencing a panic attack.”
Fans praised the episode for its raw portrayal of stress and racism in frontline work. Many viewers took to social media to highlight the importance of Corrie tackling such relevant issues.
What’s Next for Corrie?
Even though Wednesday’s episode has been axed, fans don’t have long to wait. Corrie will return in its regular Friday night slot at 8pm, picking up the dramatic storylines where they left off.
There are major moments still to come, including a shocking goodbye, an unexpected assault, and a highly anticipated special episode that promises to shake Weatherfield.
For now, though, viewers will have to sit tight while football takes centre stage. With emotions running high both on and off screen, Corrie fans are counting down the hours until the cobbles return.
