EastEnders resolves Alfie Moon cliffhanger in BBC iPlayer release – but key character is still missing

There was an unexpected outcome after Alfie Moon’s (Shane Richie) damning voicemail to wife Kat (Jessie Wallace) in EastEnders.

Mistakenly believing that Kat knew he had been searching for her daughter Zoe Slater (Michelle Ryan), Alfie left her a message saying how sorry he was.

Soon, Alfie returned from Spain, complete with a large souvenir donkey – only to find Elaine Knight (Harriet Thorpe) in a face mask and dressing gown in his flat after just moving in!

Kat hadn’t told Alfie that she and Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) had bought The Queen Vic in his absence, and when he finally found the pair, he was stunned.

Alfie realised that this was where the money from Martin Fowler’s (James Bye) life insurance had gone, when he had desperately asked Stacey to use it to save Zoe from dangerous men.

Meanwhile, Kat had been told that Alfie was actually helping his young daughter Cherry, whose mum was Hayley Slater (Katie Jarvis).

As Kat sprayed a bottle of fizz all over lying Alfie, Alfie feared he had blown their third marriage before it had really begun.

But Kat insisted that if Alfie had been honest about Cherry, she would have understood.

She demanded that the lies stopped and Alfie agreed, but when he was reminded he had left Kat a drunken voicemail, Stacey ordered Alfie to delete it.

But Kat went outside to listen to it, only for a passing man on a scooter to swipe it from her hands!

It seemed that was that as Alfie and Stacey looked relieved, while Alfie gave a joyous speech about returning to his old place behind the bar.

But as Stacey declared the whole mess “over”, where exactly is Zoe?

In a further twist to the saga, Kat’s phone was seen in a bag of stolen gear, which gangster Okie (Aayan Ibikunle Shoderu) gave Harry Mitchell (Elijah Holloway) to store in Kojo Asare’s (Dayo Koleosho) flat.

Will the truth be uncovered?
