A former Emmerdale writer has revealed the scrapped wedding plans for one popular couple.
Sharon Marshall, who used to write for the ITV soap and now writes on EastEnders, appeared on This Morning to talk about Charity Dingle’s new surrogacy storyline and pondered if it could lead to a reunion with Vanessa Woodfield.
That’s when Marshall, commonly known as the ‘Queen of Soaps’, dropped the nugget about the planned ‘Vanity’ (as the couple were called) nuptials.
“There was actually a wedding, once, that was written” she said. “But it all got axed in COVID.”
Back in 2020, Emmerdale had to pause production due to the pandemic and, when it returned it had to implement social distancing measures, which included focusing on two and three-handers rather than big group scenes (such as a wedding), and replacing physical fights with verbal threats.
Charity and Vanessa got engaged in January 2019 but their relationship ended the next year after Charity cheated on her with Mackenzie Boyd, who she went on to marry.
But as Marshall teased, Charity and Vanessa do have some upcoming scenes together, and that Mack may not be happy with Charity offering to be a surrogate for Sarah Sugden after previously stating she didn’t want to have a baby with him.
Is this all leading up to a Vanity reunion, and could fans finally get to see that wedding?
