It was Lenny Kravitz who famously sang that it ain’t over till it’s over, but it might as well have been The Young and the Restless’ star-crossed lovers Nick and Sharon — and never mind whether either of them can carry a tune! #Irrelevant
“A huge portion of the audience will always see them as connected,” executive producer/headwriter Josh Griffith tells Soaps.com, “because of their history.”
That stands to reason. There was a time when “Shick” stood for young love that never aged. They had a child together (and welcomed both Cassie and twin sis Mariah into their family). They overcame the sexy sidetrack of Sharon’s BFF Grace Turner making it her mission to land Nick.
But it’s not just the past that binds the former marrieds. It’s also… potentially… the future that may or may not await them. “I think they have been sort of reconnecting,” Griffith allows. (Sharon’s ordeals at the hand of Cameron Kirsten, then Ian Ward and Crazy Aunt Jordan, proved that!) “But they’ve also hurt each other a lot.”
Yeah, unfortunately, it would be impossible to deny the damage that was done by Nick’s relationship with Phyllis and Sharon’s with Brad (R.I.P.). “They’ve overcome a lot of obstacles, but they’ve also created a lot of obstacles between them,” Griffith points out. “So it’s always going to be a journey and a challenge for them to see if they can ever get back together.”
And trickier still, stay together!
