Emotions are running high next week in Emmerdale as residents gather at the church for Nate Robinson’s (Jurell Carter) funeral.

As expected though, things do not go smoothly. Characters get into arguments, a police officer arrives, and amid the chaos, John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) desperately tries to keep himself together as he attends the funeral of the man he murdered.

Elsewhere, Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) is about to make a life-changing decision about her future – and it’s going to impact Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill).

Monday, July 14

Charity heads to see Victoria Sugden (Isabel Hodgins) to discuss becoming Sarah’s surrogate. She immediately senses that Vic is overwhelmed and uncertain, so she does her best to convince her, explaining that she’s the only chance Sarah’s got.

Later, Charity and Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) end up on the same page as they agree to keep their options open for Sarah and follow through the possibilities.

Elsewhere, Lewis Barton (Bradley Riches) has launched a new menu at the café and everyone loves it. Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler) feels frustrated that Brenda Walker (Lesley Dunlop) is still reaping the benefits, but is later blindsided by some news.

Tuesday, July 15

Robert is gobsmacked when he learns that Charity has asked Vic about the surrogacy. When Sarah discovers this as well, she’s furious at her Gran for going behind her back.

Later, in the pub, when Cain’s surrogate fails to turn up from the agency, Sarah resigns herself to giving up on her hopes of being a mum. Seeing how devastated she is, Charity impulsively offers to carry the baby for her.

Also, while Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb) worries about Cain, John discovers Owen – the person who spiked Robert – is his next patient at the surgery.

Initially oblivious, Owen’s shocked when he finally recognises John. Soon, Robert’s shaken to see John throwing Owen out of the surgery and thanks him. Despite them playing happy families in front of Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller), Robert still feels distrustful of John.

Wednesday, July 16

John turns his focus back to the funeral, as he’s asked by Aaron to try and get Tracy Shankley (Amy Walsh) to change her mind about the Dingles attending. Sadly, she doesn’t budge on her decision. After Tracy learns that she’s entitled to the money from Nate’s life insurance, the memorial in the pub begins.

Unable to cope, Cain channels his grief into anger. Just as Caleb Miligan (William Ash) has got his brother to calm down, Nate’s mum walks in and is furious to see Cain looking so jovial. Later, when Sam Dingle (James Hooton) learns that Tracy is getting the money from the life insurance, he wonders if it’s a motive for murder.

When Sam informs Cain, he explodes at Tracy and warns her that he’ll be there at the funeral, whether he likes it or not.

Also, Cain confronts Charity about impulsively offering to be Sarah’s surrogate, adding that he thinks it’s a risk to keep Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) in the dark about it.

Thursday, July 17

Cain, Tracy and John prepare for Nate’s funeral in their respective homes, and they are all dreading the day ahead.

The Dingles arrive en-masse behind the hearse. The event quickly descends into chaos, and a major argument escalates between multiple characters.

Listening in and struggling is John. Unable to stand it any longer, he makes an emotional appeal for a truce, but ends up getting roped into doing the eulogy instead of Tracy.

With DS Walsh watching, John starts the eulogy but as he feels more and more under pressure, it looks as though he may confess…

Also, Sarah’s uncomfortable when she realises that Charity still hasn’t told Mack about the surrogate plans.

Elsewhere, Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) heads to the vets for his first day alone since the dog attack. He starts the shift off well, but a customer with a large dog then arrives. Poor Paddy struggles to contain his panic and is unable to treat the animal.

As Paddy shuts up shop, he’s totally incapacitated with fear.

Friday, July 18

John abruptly ends a call to the helpline, while Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) spots Owen’s name on his list of call-outs.

Also, Paddy opens up to Mandy Dingle (Lisa Riley) about his fear of dogs – but maybe a walk with Chip the dog can help?

Elsewhere, Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) blurts out another secret, and we finally see Bear Wolf (Joshua Richards) following his sudden departure.

And he’s a long way from reaching out to his son…
