BBC Casualty cancelled last night as it’s replaced by big sporting event

Casualty fans will have to forgo their Saturday night ritual this weekend as the beloved BBC drama is temporarily off-air.

Wimbledon 2025 will be occupying the prime BBC One timeslot from 7.15pm to 10pm, resulting in Casualty and other regular programming being dropped for the duration.

However, fans need not fret too much; Casualty is set to make its comeback on screens on Saturday, July 12 at 8.50pm, with episodes available on BBC iPlayer in the interim.

Despite medical advice to rest more, Stevie was adamant about resuming her duties, only to be overwhelmed when a surge of overdose cases hit the Emergency Department.

Flynn Byron (Olly Rix), the new face in the ED, promised to support Stevie during her shift but was soon sidetracked by other crises. Audiences were quick to express their apprehension, suggesting Stevie’s return might have been premature.

Taking to social media, one said: “Sorry, Stevie. I don’t think you’re ready at all #Casualty” and “Stevie being thrown into the deep end on Day 1 #Casualty.”

Someone else posted: “Poor Stevie rushed off her feet on Day 1” Another viewer expressed: “Stevie you shouldn’t be back so soon actually I’m glad you are but please look after yourself.”

Another agreed, saying: “Stevie really hasn’t been supported back to work at all #casualty” A fan remarked: “Poor Stevie. Much too soon to come back to work.”

BBC’s scheduling has seen significant changes due to the commencement of Wimbledon and Women’s Euro 2025 coverage, affecting more than just Casualty.

The One Show has paused its usual evening appearances for a month with the last show aired on June 27, when host Alex Jones announced: “We are taking a bit of a break for the next four weeks and we’ll be back on Monday, 28th July but there’s plenty to enjoy like Wimbledon and the Euros.”

EastEnders also saw a move to BBC Two this past Monday and Tuesday, featuring consecutive episodes at 7pm and 7.30pm.

Daytime shows have not escaped the shake-up either, with Escape To The Country being replaced in its typical 3pm weekday slot on BBC One to accommodate the tennis tournament.
