Kids grow up so quickly… especially when they are soap opera kids! Need proof? Look no further than Bold & Beautful‘s Hayes, who had a bit of a growth spurt thanks to a case of SORAS (Soap Opera Rapid Aging Syndrome). As is usually the case, this was the result of recasting.

Over the past few weeks, young Hayes has been discussed quite a bit… if mostly by fans. Steffy’s other child, daughter Kelly, has gotten the lion’s share of airtime, bonding with dad Liam who, unbeknownst to her, is dying thanks to a mass on his brain. And while Liam isn’t the biological father of Steffy’s son — that would be hubby Finn — it struck many fans as odd that he was essentially left out of the story entirely.

His absence became even more noticeable as Luna renewed her efforts to bond with Finn. After all, Luna and Hayes are half siblings thanks to their shared dad. (In fact, it’s somewhat odd that in her endless determination to create a bond with the father who wants nothing to do with her, Luna has barely mentioned her new sibling!)

Until recently, Hayes was played by Alexander and Chase Banks. (Twins are often used when working with children, given that they are only allowed to work limited hours.) But as of the episode airing on Thursday, June 12, the part has been assumed by Bryan David Garlick.

Ironically, even as her on-screen son was being seen for the first time, Jacqueline MacInnes Wood was preparing for her upcoming maternity leave. She’s expected to give birth to her fifth child with hubby Elan Ruspoli this summer. Already, the couple have four boys… might a girl be in their future?
